Solar Options

Solar options for any circumstances our there

Hybrid or Grid-interactive

A Hybrid system ( Grid-Interactive system ) gives you the best of both worlds. your inverter decides where to get the power from to give you electricity all the time.

Whether is from Eskom, your solar panels, or the batteries. The benefit of a hybrid solar system is that you will always have power in any situation. With a backup battery, the excess energy that your solar panels create (but your home does not use), will be stored in this battery.

When the sun is not shining, the batteries will provide your power during the night, load shedding, or inclement weather.

With a hybrid solar system, if you were to use up all the power in your battery, you have the ability to draw power from the electrical grid.

More Benefits:

  • No-load shedding
  • Continuous power supply
  • Utilize the renewable sources in the best way
  • Low maintenance cost
  • High efficiency

Grid-Tied Solar Options

A Grid-Tied system consists of solar panels and an inverter. During the day you can use the electricity coming from the solar panels, and during nighttime or when the weather does not allow a sunny day you can use electricity coming from Eskom.

There are no battery backups with this system, although you could add later and change it to a Hybrid system if you bought the right inverter. Grid-Tied is mostly used in businesses where their biggest demand is during the daytime.
A Grid-Tied system is cheaper to start with because of the batteries.

More Benefits:

  • No expensive batteries are required.
  • Sunlight is directly converted into electricity to use
  • At current electricity costs, system payback is between 4 to 6 years
  • Very little maintenance required

Off-Grid Solar Options

Off-Grid Solar Systems does not get any electricity from Eskom. The Solar Panels charge the batteries and provide electricity during the day.

At night your batteries must provide your electricity. In cases where the weather is not helping you will need a back generator to act in the same way, Eskom would have.

The biggest benefit would be that you don’t need Eskom. So no bills or load shedding.

Yes, the Off-Grid system is a bit pricy to start with. But the fact that you don’t need Eskom will be worth it.

Battery Backup Options

A battery backup system ( or as some would say UPS system ) only consists of an inverter and a set of batteries. There are no solar panels involved.

The inverter charges the batteries through Eskom, and when you have load shedding the batteries carry you through the time of no Eskom electricity.

This system is ideal for load shedding time in your home or any department.

More Benefits:

  • Ability to upgrade to solar
  • Have power when needed
  • No load shedding worries
